While Govt. of India gave impetus for Women’s education in the first National Policy on Education (NPE) in 1986, His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the visionary

pontiff of Suttur Mutt had already implemented this policy in one of his beloved institutions - JSS Polytechnic for Women, Mysore in 1980 itself.

What began as a small gesture to provide the Industry with middle level technicians with only two programmes in 1980 has now become a large institute embracing eight diverse disciplines touching the lives of thousands of students and their families. The saga begun in 1980-81in humble, small sheds now boasts of an architectural landmark housing state of the art laboratories, class rooms, library and highly motivated faculty lead by several visionary and tireless captains. The programmes have reached out to even the most economically backward and rural sections of the population as the Institute is fully covered under the Grant-in-Aid scheme of Govt. of Karnataka. One of the commendable endeavors of the Institute was starting of Community Polytechnic in 1985-86 which attempts to outreach its technical helping hand to the surrounding villages providing continuing education to school dropouts.

The Polytechnic nestles in a sprawling landscaped technical institutions campus along with several pioneering sister Institutes like SJ College of Engineering, JSS Centre for Management Studies and JSS Polytechnic for Differently Abled, only one of its kind in India.
